- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and remove any other iPad apps that are currently running to prevent them from taking control of the sound.

Reading Doctor® Online has an automatic sequence that a student can progress through. Each student defaults to starting at the beginning and it will progress them through the sequence. This is suggested for complete beginners. Reading Doctor® Online also has a placement test available to assist in deciding where to start students who are not complete beginners.

☝️ A student says they are repeating the same exercises in Reading Doctor® Online. Is something wrong?
No, this is intentional!
No, this is intentional!
The Reading Doctor® Online program is designed to reduce support gradually in activities, which means students may feel they are not progressing. However, students are actually working through the same teaching targets but with less help. Furthermore, if a student is not passing activities, the program will repeat the same teaching targets but with more help provided. This reduction in scaffolding is intentional. In addition, the program includes revision activities to reinforce learning.

More information about the teaching sequence and student progression can be found here. If you want to check a student's progress, you can review their reports. Everything the student does is recorded, and these reports can provide insights into their performance. You can learn how to access and interpret these reports here. If you think the student is making too many mistakes, consider if they need to be placed at a different point in the sequence.

☝️ Can I use Reading Doctor® Online with older students?
Reading Doctor® Online provides an excellent vehicle for strengthening foundation skills that may have not been well established in previous school years. In our clinical experience, a high percentage of children aged 8+ with reading difficulties have poorly established foundation skills (such as basic letter-sound knowledge, blending, segmentation and ability to recognise common but irregularly spelled sight-words).

The activities in the program have been designed to be as non-condescending as possible. We were aware that older students may be using the software so avoiding 'babyish' elements was an important aspect in our design. We have had great success using the program with older students in our clinic (and with adults, too).
